It’s not often that I’m pulled into somebody’s writing but your words drew me in. I was going “yesssss” all along while reading. I love reading things with very little mental agenda attached to it.

"Not for any of the extraneous stuff that comes with it — the likes, the followers, the attention, the social clout.

Not for the promise of making money or reaching for any kind of homogenized “success.”

I just want to be myself.

I’m just here to express what I see from my particular vantage point in time and space."

This reminds me of a very similar process I also went through. The desire to express my creativity through writing and social media and the mind hooking in and running off with it (my motivation transference is Fear). I am so thankful for the tools HD has given me to catch the mind when its off and feeling that lack of energy for the task and especially the headaches I get when the mind is “trying to solve” something. I had blogs, Substack, Medium and I wrote and removed everything in the end. I am back to the start. I am now slowly starting to edit and publish them on my own website, this time behind a paywall and if no one signs up, fine - at least I value my work and I am writing because I want to, not because the mind wants validation. Thank you for sharing your experience, and you are right to be charging for your writing.

wow, thank you so much Ise for sharing your experience and for the recognition! I relate to the headaches and "trying to solve" problems which perhaps didn't need to be there in the first place. Writing and sharing on the internet is weird these days and its hard not to get sucked into everything that comes with it (I mean, even on Substack which is becoming increasingly like social media). Honestly, still love having a blog on my website because it feels completely detached from metrics/viewers etc

I agree. I was on Substack and found it to be turning into another social media, so I’m back to Ghost who I have been with for many years now and it’s my little corner of the internet and now I’ve turned on paid subscriptions. Let’s see what happens. 😊 also love the ux / visuals of your website x
